چکیده

A number of optimisation problems involve the optimal grouping of a finite set of items into a number of categories subject to one or more constraints. Such problems raise interesting issues in mapping solutions in genetic algorithms. These problems range from the knapsack problem to bin packing and cutting stock problems. This paper describes research involving cutting stock problems. Results show that the mapping that is used affects the solution in terms of both quality of the solution found and time taken to find solutions, and that different mappings are suitable for different variants of the problem.

A new evolutionary approach to cutting stock problems with and without contiguity

Evolutionary algorithms (EAs) have been applied to many optimization problems successfully in recent years. The genetic algorithm (GAs) and evolutionary programming (EP) are two di!erent types of EAs. GAs use crossover as the primary search operator and mutation as a background operator, while EP uses mutation as the primary search operator and does not employ any crossover. This paper proposes...

An Algorithm for Two Dimensional Cutting Stock Problems with Demand

In this paper, two-dimensional cutting stock problem with demand has been studied. In this problem, cutting of large rectangular sheets into specific small pieces should be carried out hence, the waste will be minimized. Solving this problem is important to decrease waste materials in any industry that requires cutting of sheets. In most previus studies, the demand of pieces has not been usually...

Solving an one-dimensional cutting stock problem by simulated annealing and tabu search

A cutting stock problem is one of the main and classical problems in operations research that is modeled as Lp < /div> problem. Because of its NP-hard nature, finding an optimal solution in reasonable time is extremely difficult and at least non-economical. In this paper, two meta-heuristic algorithms, namely simulated annealing (SA) and tabu search (TS), are proposed and deve...

A Hybrid Genetic Algorithm for Optimization of Two-dimensional Cutting-Stock Problem

In this paper, the authors present a hybrid genetic approach for the two-dimensional rectangular guillotine oriented cutting-stock problem. In this method, the genetic algorithm is used to select a set of cutting patterns while the linear programming model permits one to create the lengths to produce with each cutting pattern to fulfil the customer orders with minimal production cost. The effec...
